NEWS 4 – A report just released from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that an estimated 1 million pounds of rat meat has been passed off as “boneless chicken wings” from China. The makeshift chicken wings have possibly been sold in restaurants and grocery stores across America over the last 8 months.
According to reports, FDA inspectors raised concerns after several illegal shipping containers originating from China were seized by customs at the Port of San Francisco. They were found to contain rat meat, scheduled to be shipped off to different meat processing plants across America and resold as chicken wings. The report continues to say that hundreds of thousands of pounds of illegal meat were seized and destroyed by authorities.
The FDA warns an estimated 1 million pounds of the counterfeit rat chicken wings might still be in circulation at local grocery stores and restaurants without the knowledge of the purchasers. The FDA is encouraging consumers to not purchase chicken wings unless you are familiar with the suppliers source.
